What a disaster!
Does anybody remember last year when we just couldn't beat the Orioles. Most notably the last stretch of the season when we were in spitting distance of the Yankees in the standings and the O's just kept beating us up? Well its happened again and it couldn't have come at a worst time. These are the days when its hard to be a writer for an unpopular blog which nobody reads.
Last night, Matt Clement - my favorite Red Sox acquisition of the offseason - gave up seven runs in less than five innings. Five innings! But the worst part is that this is a game we could have won. I remember switching back to ESPNNews (http://www.espn.com) during commercials last night and seeing the score stuck at 8-7. It was one of those times where you wouldn't be suprised if your team won, but you knew something was gonna happen.
Well it happened in the 8th when Francona brought out Foulke an inning too earlier and he promptly gave up home runs to Tejada and Javy Lopez. Its not like we didn't have our chances. Timlin gave us two solid innings of one-hit ball for the hold. Embree was already used in the fifth to get Clement out of a jam.
I guess Francona was thinking, 'well, we just used our two set-up guys so we mine-as-well go to our closer one inning early. Obviously that backfired.
Meanwhile, gay-Rod hit three homers to lead the Yanks with 10 RBIs over the Angels. This means they're one and a half back with the Moose pitching tonight.
Sox are in second, three games behind Baltimore.
Tonight: Celts take on the Pacers in Indiana. I'll put my money on the bench scoring thirty and 12 assists for 'toine to put the Celts ahead 2-1.
